One-Line Bio

Brant Hansen hosts the morning show on 88.1 WAY-FM in South Florida.

Biography

Q: Brant, no offense, but you seem to really have to struggle to be awake and talking at 6 a.m. Why do you do a morning show?

Yes, this is a question I ask God at 4:55 a.m. each weekday. But sometimes, at a concert or something, a little kid will come up to me, and say she listens every morning before school, and she feels like I’m part of her family. Talk about an honor!

Q: Tell us about your family.

My wife is beautiful and smart. As for my kids, I said, before we had children, that I would not be the parent who says, “Ooh, my kids are the most talented wonderful kids ever,” etc. Then, God, in His sense of humor, gives us the kids who really ARE the most talented, wonderful kids ever! What irony!

Q: What’s been most memorable from your three years or so at WAY-FM?

WAY-FM sent me to Indonesia following the tsunami. To this day, I get emotional about the people there, and the incomprehensible disaster. Also, I loved getting a chance to go to Nairobi to play with kids and see Compassion International in action.

Q: What kind of stuff do you read? What’s your favorite book?

Tough call, but I’d go with Chesterton’s Orthodoxy. He’s like C.S. Lewis meets Monty Python. I always love reading First Things. I also like George Will, Philip Yancey, Richard John Neuhaus, of course, and I like Erwin McManus and Rob Bell stuff.

Q: So, basically, you’re saying you’re a nerd.

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying. Check it out: I went to a football-mad high school, where I served as the state President of the Illinois Student Librarians Association. At our meetings, I presided over Dewey Decimal Bingo.

Q: You’re making that up.

I wish I was making that up.

Q: What are your weaknesses?

I tend to be very selfish. I tend to be very judgmental. I tend to be too analytical. I don’t feel like I’m very disciplined. Can I stop now? I want to follow Jesus, but it’s hard. I think He’s slowly changing me. My wife would say He has.

Q: What’s the deal with toast? Don’t you eat anything else?

I do eat other things, yes. Lots of other things.

Q: Like what?

...

Q: C’mon, like what?

...well...croutons...and...stuff.

Q: That’s toast, too. Croutons are toast.

No, they’re smaller than toast. If you think about it.

Q: You think about it, apparently.

I think about it.

Interests

I have a wife and two kids. I am the host of 88.1 WAY-FM's morning show. I'm not going to give too much more personal information here, for security purposes. I will divulge, from the bottom of my heart, that I own a gun. And my wife packs heat, and so do my children.
